EIIC honors two prominent New Yorkers for their work in aiding immigrants and celebrating the historic ties between the Irish and Jewish communities of New York. The award is named after Robert Briscoe, the first Jewish Lord Mayor of Dublin and a leader in Ireland’s fight for independence.
This year we are honoring Steve Cohen and Timothy Cardinal Dolan for their work and dedication to improving the quality of life for immigrants.
Steve Cohen — New York Mets owner Steve Cohen is committed to inspiring philanthropy and community service that benefits diverse immigrant communities across Queens. He has directed significant resources toward immigrant-focused initiatives, educational programs, community health, and workforce training. As part of his once-in-a-generation Metropolitan Park project, the Metropolitan Park Community Impact Trust provides grants to local Queens nonprofits, including immigration legal aid services, to support the surrounding community.
Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop Emeritus of New York — Named Co-Chief Chaplain of the NYPD Chaplains Unit earlier this year, Cardinal Dolan has long advocated for compassionate immigration policies, drawing on the Catholic Church’s call to welcome those from afar. Under his leadership, Catholic Charities of New York has provided extensive support to immigrants, particularly during recent migrant surges, for the sake, as he puts it, of “those who have made this nation home for many years, and for those recently arrived who seek to make this nation and New York their new home.”

Proceeds from the 2026 Robert Briscoe Awards will go directly to EIIC, covering critical operating costs not met by other funding sources and sustaining the full range of services at both our Bronx and Queens offices.
