Free Citizenship Classes

Supported by funding through the 2013 USCIS Citizenship and Integration Grant Program, EIIC offers a comprehensive education program that helps U.S Citizenship applicants to successfully pass their citizenship test.

Class Objectives

  • Learn About the United States government and History
  • Help students become more proficient in intermediate conversational English in order to prepare them for the Naturalization Interview
  • Provide students with listening and word recognition skills
  • Provide students with intermediate vocabulary and useful sentences
  • Give students the opportunity to practice written and spoken English
  • Learn about the rights and responsibilities of a U.S. citizen

Attendance policy

  • After 6 unexcused classes absences you will be removed from the program.

Please note that our Annual Robert Briscoe Awards has been rescheduled to Monday, March 23, 2015 at the 21 Club, 21 West 52nd Street from 6-8pm.  Our thanks to our many Board members, Sponsors and longtime Supporters for purchasing tickets already, please contact us and let us know if you are still planning to attend.

POSITION – EIIC Manager of Finance & Administration

The Emerald Isle Immigration Center is seeking a Manager of Finance and Administration (MFA) to join this exemplary nonprofit agency entering its 27th year of service and become part of the executive team. The MFA is responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary functions for the organization, ensuring that the organization operates in an effective and fiscally sound manner. The MFA is also responsible for ensuring that agency has the people, processes, and systems in place to advance its mission.

The MFA reports to the Executive Director and works closely with other members of the executive team and the Board of Directors, particularly the Treasurer. The MFA processes a skill set that leads the agency and the administration members of the team responsible for fiscal oversight, bookkeeping, facilities, budgeting, and requisition of receivables, human capital and information technology. The MFA is primarily based in Woodside, Queens, New York and periodically travels to our second office location in the Bronx.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum three to five years related work experience in positions of increasing scope and responsibility working in or with the nonprofit sector
  • Experience in the fields of finance, human resources, IT management, events and fiscal administration
  • Experience in a financial operation with board-level budgeting and reporting accountability
  • Experience with negotiating and requisitioning funds from government and private grants with multi-lateral organizations and complying with restricted and complex (NYC, Intl. NY State, Federal  grant & contracts)
  • Comfortable in an environment where a hands-on management style, adaptability and a get-it-done attitude with a sense of humor are necessary
  • Highly organized delegator who sets individual and direct team report priorities and effectively monitors progress towards achievement
  • Excellent in motivating and retaining team members
  • Experience with working in developing a growing nonprofit helpful
  • BA in accounting or finance will be considered a valuable asset
  • Commitment to EIIC’s mission and core values

EIIC office closing today (Mon. January 26) at 3pm due to weather conditions!

Please note our offices are closing early, at 3pm,today, Monday, January 26, 2015. We will also be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, 2015 and anticipate reopening on or before 10am on Wednesday, January 28, 2015. The NYC area is expecting heavy   snow starting tonight through Tuesday afternoon, and winds of 20-30 miles per hour.We thank our Meals on Wheels volunteers who went out and delivered meals today and they ensured our program participants have enough food in house for the next couple of days.

We hope you will take caution, be prepared and limit travel.  The city is advising residents to stay home and off the roads and to take public transportation where possible. Any concerns or problems with snow or plowing should be reported to 311.
