The Emerald Isle Immigration Center’s Meals On Wheels program provides daily meals to local Seniors who are unable to prepare meals for themselves due to an age related disability or illness. The meals are delivered daily by a group of dedicated volunteers. We are always seeking new volunteers so please contact us at 718-324-3039 if you are interested or if you know of someone who would like to become a meal recipient.
Our staff includes our attorney, a psychotherapist who has counseled many clients on depression, addiction issues, relationships and bereavement. Our social work team who work together in an effort to improve the general welfare of our clients. We have been happy to partner with NYU and Columbia University’s Schools Of Social Work to provide student interns with practical experience. As part of our social services remit we can: provide counseling, provide information on Medicaid, hospitalization and other aspects of healthcare; aid in housing matters such as the search for accommodation or provide referrals toward the resolution of landlord/tenant issues; advise on legal matters to do with government documents or city regulations.
Our seniors’ program deals with issues such as guidance on where to turn for help on everyday practical matters; we host computer classes, Irish language conversational classes, a book club and an active knitting group.
